Winner Major Open Award, North Sydney Art Prize 2024

First shown at Passage Gallery in 2023, Late, one of Bae and Lawler’s notable data works, was selected as a finalist in the 2024 North Sydney Art Prize and subsequently exhibited at the Coal Loader, where it went on to win the Major Open Award.

Within its charred, spiked structure, Late contains climate data mapping the behaviour of the Gosper’s Mountain mega-fire. The serotinous, seed-like form visualises Australia’s largest bushfire and the 79 days of its uncontrollable spread on Sydney’s northern fringe during the 2019/2020 fire season—a stark reminder of the ongoing climate emergency.
